GIF (Graphics Interchange Format)
Graphics Interchange Format is one of the two most common file formats for graphic images on the World Wide Web.

Helper application (in web terms)
A program helping the browser to display, view, or work with files that the browser cannot handle itself.

Hits
The number of times a web object has been viewed or downloaded by a web user.

Home page
The top-level, default page displayed when visiting a website.

HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language)
HyperText Markup Language is the predominant markup language for web pages. It provides a means to describe the structure of text-based information in a document.

HTML document
A document written in HTML.

HTML editor
An application for editing HTML documents.

HTML form
A form that passes input by the user back to the server.

HTML tags
Code to identify the different parts of an HTML document, helping the browser know how to display it.

HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol)
The underlying protocol used by the World Wide Web. HTTP defines how messages are formatted and transmitted, and what actions web servers and browsers should take in response to various commands.

Hyperlink
An element in an electronic document that links to another document or another place in the same document.

Hypermedia
Includes graphics and audio into hypertext as an extension.

Hyper Text
Hyper Text defines information as nodes and link networks forming navigable paths that can be referenced to.

IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol)
A standard protocol to access email from your local server.

Impressions
The number of times an advertisement appears on a web page accessed.

Internet
A world wide network connecting millions of computers.

Internet Explorer (IE)
A web browser developed by Microsoft.

Intranet
A private Internet running inside a local network.

IP Address (Internet Protocol Address)
A unique number to identify every computer on the Internet.

IRC (Internet Relay Chat)
A system enabling users to join on-line discussions.

IRC Client
An application that enables a user to connect to IRC.

IRC Server
An Internet server dedicated to the task of serving IRC connections.

ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network)
A telecommunication standard that uses digital transmission to support data communications over regular telephone lines.

ISP (Internet Service Provider)
A service that provides access to the Internet.

Java
Java is a programming language originally developed by Sun Microsystems and released in 1995 as a core component of Sun Microsystems' Java platform.

JavaScript
JavaScript is a scripting language widely used for client-side web development.

JPEG (Joint Photographic Expert Group)
JPEG is a commonly used method of compression for photographic images.

JPEG and JPG
Graphic formats for storing compressed images.

JScript
JavaScript version developed by Microsoft.

Keyword (in web terms)
A keyword is used by search engines to find relevant web information.

Leaderboard
A leaderboard is a popular type of banner advertisement. At standard dimensions of 780 X 90 pixels, this is usually the width of the page and typically lies between the masthead and content.

Linux
Open source operating system for computers.

Meta data
Metadata (meta data, or sometimes metainformation) is "data about data", of any sort in any media.
